| Michael Smith is a renowned singer-songwriter and national touring performer. His inventive guitar-playing, singing, and song crafting unveils a true artistry. Chicago Magazine says of Michael Smith, "He is a singular experience...there is simply no one like him on the current scene. He's one of the best songwriters in the English language...an enchanting and riveting performer." "Hearing the songs of Michael Smith in this day and age is like reading an anthology of short stories by Hemingway" says Song Talk (a publication of the National Association of Songwriters.) Michael Smith's prolific songs have been recorded by prominent and legendary musicians including the Kingston Trio, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmy Buffet, and Spanky & Our Gang, Steve Goodman, Bob Gibson, and Bonnie Koloc. "Smith's lyrics and songs range from heartfelt portraits of human relationships, like his signature tune 'The Dutchman' (recorded by over 30 artists), to picturesque bits of period Americana, like 'Spoon River'. His songs are moving, mysterious, and even hilarious at times" says Faye Wedell of North Texas e-News. Michael Smith also has extraordinary theater credits. Smith wrote the music for the Steppenwolf production of John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" which won two prestigious Tony Awards. Smith also co-wrote "Michael, Margaret, Pat & Kate" which won four Jeff Awards. Michael Smith also collaborated in creating "Weavermania", "The Selfish Giant" and many other creative theater productions laced with songs and music including "Snow Queen" presented annually as a theatre production in Chicago. Smith travels constantly, playing concerts and continuing to write at a feverish place. "I feel so grateful to get to do what I do," Michael says. "I feel I was born to write songs." Opening will be singer/songwriter Dave Hawkins. |
