DOUG SMITH & JUDY KOCH SMITH
VENUE: Grayslake Village Hall
TIME: 7:00 PM Grammy-award winning guitarist and fingerstyle guitar champion DOUG SMITH has been called “one of the finest acoustic guitarists of his generation”, and “a cross between Chet Atkins, Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke”. His original compositions have been heard everywhere from NPR to Turner Classic Movies and Good Morning America, and he has played on movie soundtracks including the popular film August Rush. In 2005 Doug won a Grammy award for his participation on the tribute CD “Henry Mancini: Pink Guitar”, and in 2006 he won the prestigious Winfield International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition. Doug has shared the stage with guitar luminaries such as Tommy Emmanuel and bluegrass great Jerry Douglas, taught at guitar workshops throughout the country, and toured Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. He recently released his 12th solo album “Guitar Americana”, and in 2019 headed to New York and Chicago to play guitar in the Broadway production test run of “August Rush - The Musical.” JUDY KOCH SMITH has been playing flute and singing since childhood with her siblings, and beyond with a variety of musicians, as part of a duo, trio, casual bands and a community orchestra in college. She loves trying out new genres for singing harmonies or adding flute parts, and has been involved in fund-raising concerts while living in the Northwest. Doug and Judy will present an evening of dazzling guitar solos, original compositions, familiar songs and fun duets.
